★★★★★
Light and non-greasy on the skin. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any residue … after about 15–20 minutes I had completely stopped thinking about the discomfort.

It takes very little to achieve a pain relief and relaxing feeling, so no need to overdo it. It didn’t bleed into my clothing … I forgot I had pain for quite a length of time, so this is going to become a daily cream for me.

What Vitarub Relieves

Fast-acting topical analgesic formulated for 4 core uses: muscle pain and aches, arthritis, simple backache and lumbago, and strains and sprains.

Muscle pain and aches

Relief after exertion, a long shift, or physical stress.

Arthritis

For the joint aches and soreness that keep coming back.

Simple backache and lumbago

For everyday lower-back aches and stiffness.

Strains and sprains

Muscles, tendons and ligaments, after a twist or an overreach.

Uses, exactly as licensed by Health Canada — NPN 80142305

Temporarily relieves aches and pains, and soreness of muscles and joints, associated with one or more of the following: simple backache, lumbago, strains and sprains involving muscles, tendons and/or ligaments, and arthritis.

A 400 g clinical format, specified to the decimal

Viscosity 70K – 120K CPS +

Thick enough to stay where it is applied, fluid enough to spread thinly and evenly without dragging on the skin.

pH balance 7.0 – 7.8 +

Close to neutral, and within the range skin tolerates for repeated daily application — up to four times per day.

Thermal threshold 32 °C Active +

Unlike occlusive balms, this emulsion fluidifies on contact with the body's natural heat at 32 °C — releasing the actives on application rather than saturating the epidermis.

Density 0.94 – 1.00 G/ML +

Just under the density of water — consistent with a hydro-active emulsion rather than a wax- or petrolatum-based balm.

Medicinal ingredients 3 ACTIVES / PER 30 G +

l-Menthol 4.0%, methyl salicylate 7.5%, eucalyptol (1,8-cineole) 2.5%. Every concentration is stated on the label.

Why Vitarub is not rated highest. High-salicylate liniments reach a stronger thermal counter-irritation, and NSAID gels work through a different, biochemical route. Vitarub is formulated for daily repeat use at a moderate intensity — which is what makes it suitable for adults, adolescents and children two years and older, up to four times a day.

What is being compared. These are product categories, not specific brands — grouped by their active ingredient class and mode of action. Compiled from publicly available product labelling.

Questions, answered.

Everything below is drawn from the approved label and the product monograph.

Ordering for a clinic? →
How long does Vitarub take to work? +

Vitarub works in stages. Menthol produces a cooling sensation within 2 to 5 minutes. Between 15 and 45 minutes, methyl salicylate produces rubefaction — the warming and reddening effect — and increases local blood flow. Peak concentration in the muscle and underlying tissue is reached between 1 and 3 hours.

How often can I apply it? +

Apply thinly and evenly to the affected area, up to 4 times per day. Rub or massage into the skin until the solution vanishes. Ask a health care practitioner before using it for more than 7 days.

Can I use Vitarub with a heating pad? +

No. Do not apply with external heat such as an electric heating pad — this may result in excessive skin irritation or skin burn. Do not tightly bandage the area either.

Can I use it if I take blood thinners? +

Ask a health care practitioner before use if you are taking blood thinners, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Is Vitarub safe for children? +

Vitarub is approved for adults, adolescents and children 2 years and older. Supervise children when they use this product. It is not for children under 2.

Will it stain my clothes? +

No. Vitarub's emulsion is non-greasy and absorbs quickly without staining clothing — which is why it suits application during the day rather than only at night.

What does the warming sensation feel like? +

In Vitarub, menthol cools on contact first, then the methyl salicylate produces rubefaction — a gentle warming with some reddening of the skin. That reaction is expected. Stop use if you experience burning discomfort, a rash, or an allergic reaction.

Is Vitarub approved by Health Canada? +

Yes. Vitarub holds Natural Product Number 80142305, issued by Health Canada against the approved formulation. It is manufactured by Dermolab Pharma to GMP standards.

Can I use it for arthritis, lumbago or back pain? +

Vitarub temporarily relieves aches, pains and soreness of muscles and joints associated with simple backache, lumbago, strains and sprains involving muscles, tendons or ligaments, and arthritis.

What is the difference between a warming cream and a cooling gel? +

A cooling gel relies on menthol alone to mask pain signals at the surface. Vitarub uses menthol for that first stage, then methyl salicylate to increase local blood flow — so the sensation moves from cool to warm as it absorbs.
